Almost as addicting as love, but pain somehow manages to linger longer than love can. More side effects, more emotions, more feelings. Pain...well pain is life changing.

I sit here writing this post, knowing I'll regret it later when everything's back to normal. Like a rollercoaster ride I'm never able to get off of. Fight, cry, feel the pain, apologize, feel pathetic, pathetic-ness fades, things are happy, forget about the pain, then fight again...then I feel stupid all over for posting anything about my pain, posting subliminally, posting anything that displays to others one of many nights.

I even tried once before to have a diary, because fighting became so frequent, and because I am emotional, it was very hard for me to cope because I felt every emotion so strongly. I'll never forget the long nights that I've had, they're practically engraved in my memories. My most pathetic moments are actually on replay on these nights, as if I'm watching myself in a movie from the outside practically begging me to stop. I see myself already, begging him not to hang up. "Just please talk to me, just a little longer." "C'mon when are you going to talk to me?" And no matter how heartbroken my face is, no matter how many tears stream down my bare face, he still hangs up with not even a second. Looking in at my movie again, I tell myself how can anyone hang up on someone practically begging for a few more moments with tears running down their face? How can I be so cruel or mean to anyone who loves me so much to have to beg me for my time? And then I remember that it is because I am that way...that I have so much love and compassion for others, that is why I am in this position.

More movie clips go by, and to be honest, that to me is a happier clip because at LEAST he was still on FaceTime. The worst clips to replay in my head are seeing what happens after he hangs up. How much self pity and loathing I have for myself. How I would look at my mirror in my most darkest of nights and tell my reflection how much I hated her. How much I hated her for going through this. how much I hated her for having these emotions. An even worse clip? Seeing myself cry so hard that my voice is gone. Having so many tears on my sheets that I can't find a dry spot to sleep on. I would sit on the edge of the bed, and take my nails and scrape as hard as I can into my thighs and legs. I banged my head against the edge of the night post in frustration and pain. None of these things felt comparable to the emotional and psychological pain I was feeling. Somehow I would keep banging my hand anyway to try and match the pain I was in and nothing. Remember how I said pain lingers? It LITERALLY does...the next morning, I still see the side effects throughout the day of what I felt last night. My legs are black and blue throughout. But my most prominent "trophy" for my punishment of my self? My eyes...my swollen chinky eyes that are so puffed up the next morning that I feel like I'm looking through a slit.

Those were some of the worst nights, the nights where I felt the most pathetic. Granted, I now blame this on myself. I look back and see someone talking to me like I'm scum on the sidewalk, and still speak to them calmly, almost begging them to stop being so nasty. Someone is spewing negativities at you, and you take it like a champ? No Cassandra, you're not a champ for that, you're PATHETIC. Even worse, when you realize you felt so strongly about your point, enough to bring it to his attention, and at the end of it all you're in tears and feel like you had no point to begin with? What is this debauchery? Did I really try to make myself better by giving myself credit for letting someone speak to me in that manner and still keeping my composure?

Some of my favorite moments, some that are stained in my membrane (LOL), are of course when I decide to be emotional as per usual. I guess I'm not built like some women where everything just has to slide off my back. Everything sticks, like a dart that you throw against a dartboard. I love when the words can just flow so effortlessly off his tongue, lashing me, hurting me, and the tears slowly start to fall. Now guess what? That's not my favorite part! It's when he tells me, " Cassandra, you're going to cry? Really Cassandra?" "You're so fucking emotional. If you're going to cry, don't talk to me. I don't want to see you cry." Now unlike those cute lines that some guys tell another woman about not wanting to see them cry, this is NOT that line. He literally hangs up, or tells me to stop crying or he WILL hang up, because he doesn't want to talk to his pathetic sobbing girlfriend. He rather just continue to talk to his pathetic girlfriend, sobbing is just extra.

Now when you try every solution, you find yourself reaching. Get a new backbone Cassandra, it's not that serious right? He's right! You do cry for everything! It really is my fault for everything because I get so emotional and I hurt myself more than I used to! I'm a professional practically at knowing exactly how to respond to my "irrational-ness" because I've been told so many times. I can cry, feel hurt and pain, and know exactly what words he would tell me to justify why I feel this way.

Honestly, the crazy part too is that you start to question your own beliefs, your own feelings. Someone makes you out to be irrational long enough, you eventually start to believe that DAMN, you are an irrational woman FOR REAL. I can come to him with a real feeling that I have, that I feel this way because he did this. What it turns into sometimes is worse than even having the feeling in the first place. Suddenly, you pick at everything and turn a minuscule situation into a larger one. Then you end up debating events that happened that proves WHY you shouldn't feel that way. Then you have a rebuttal, that turns into a degrading session, explaining how you're so dumb to think that when indeed...it wasn't even "that". Suddenly you're pathetic for the things you take into account. Then in an effort to correct him on something, you're cutting him off...therefore it WARRANTS him telling you to "Shut the fuck up I'm speaking" and casually continuing the conversation. By the end of it, you're in tears, feeling hurt by all the belittling, demeaning comments about your intelligence and your character. The feeling that you once so strongly had is gone, because there's no way you can beat the facts he just spewed out at you that ALWAYS seem to be 100% true. You're left feeling stupid as hell, just like how he called you. Wow, I should've NEVER felt that way. I didn't even need to think like that. He's RIGHT! That was dumb to think of in that manner.

You ever thought you could have a good point to bring up about how bothered or upset you feel about a topic, then bring it up to the person and then you end up in tears? Like somewhere in expressing how you feel, it becomes how STUPID and how PATHETIC you are for feeling that way? Listen, I have questioned so much of how I genuinely felt that now when I bring up a topic, it's like preparing for a 45 page presentation. Facts only, no emotion, short, concise. Once I get a rebuttal, I let him have it. Rather have that then feel stupid.

Where is my solution you might ask? What have I learned? What is wrong with me? Well, I figured out the solution multiple times to be...BE HEARTLESS. Quite honestly when you're in a position of pain and you see someone appear to constantly be in power after causing you pain, you strive to be like that person. The view of the top from the bottom looks golden. Wow, look how he's never shed a tear over your pain. Look how he can so easily ignore your 32 calls and texts, and how he can just hang up so effortlessly while you're crying like a sad puppy. Seeing someone show you how good they are at having no emotions towards you made me feel like that was the answer. That being just like him will allow myself to not lose sleep, and be so calm and collected all the time. God what I wouldn't give to not shed a tear over him! What I wouldn't give for dry pillowcases, and the ability to sleep peacefully even after a fight like that. So I told myself the answer was to be heartless just like him.

Now that in of itself is extremely hard. From going to feeling everything so deeply and immensely, to being able to not feel an ounce of remorse for my actions. Do you know what type of borderline pathethic-ness and discipline it takes to listen to someone tell you the most hurtful, nastiest things ever and still sit there with tears in your eyes and converse with them as if NOTHING hurtful was said? I may never learn to be heartless, but it seems like the way to go...

I think wanting to be heartless is a long journey! When you grew up in a loving, respectable household, to turn that off and become someone who has been damaged beyond comparison takes consistent pain and sorrow. One thing that I have mastered the art of being however...is pathetic.

Because regardless of all those nights I can count where I flung myself in the room, drove down the Belt Parkway barely seeing the road from tears, the names I've been called, the amount of "shut the fuck ups" I've endured, the amount of times I've been told how emotional, overbearing, and saturating I am...STILL, I STAY.Cassandrahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01819455045366689002noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5436495194090653519.post-50975515965890760192015-08-18T20:58:00.004-07:002015-08-18T21:29:14.457-07:00A Guide for the Young & Broken...

There will be situations in life where we are blinded. We are so blinded by the things that we surround ourselves with, the people who are around us, and the relationships that we have that stay long past the expiration date. I am one of those blinded people. I have not been able to see my way for about two years, and it's the frustration that I had toward my blindness that led me to really divulge myself into another religion. I bought a bible in hopes to find answers that I couldn't answer myself, and to stop going to everyone for advice and talk to God instead. I found some answers, and I discovered things along the way with the help of God, friends, and my own research. When you're going through a tough time, you wouldn't believe how much blogs and forums will be a comfort to you. So many people are often going through exactly the same thing you're going through so you never have to feel alone.

The next couple of blurbs/points/comments are my thoughts and feelings that I have gathered as I found myself in a toxic and abusive relationship for over two years. These of course are not set in stone, and anyone is free to disagree with any of the points made. I was so blinded to trying to make the best out of a situation that I often lost sight of what I knew deep down. I pray you find some type of comfort, answer or even a good read out of this post, and I hope you are able to get out of whatever situation you're in, albeit abusive, toxic, unhealthy, and as simple as just being unhappy.

My first point, and my most important point:

KNOW YOUR SELF WORTH!

I didn't realize that I didn't KNOW my own self worth until I stuck around in my expired relationship for way past the due date. Knowing your self worth can mean so many things, but the best way I can describe it is as, knowing your value as a human being to the point where you do not accept or tolerate any person or situation that compromises your happiness, value or well-being. It is OKAY to walk away from anything that can no longer serve you, help you grow, or make you happy. I realised that I was so busy trying to make other people happy that I didn't realize no one was nurturing my own happiness, and I was losing myself doing that. You have to be selfish sometimes. You will always come first, and no one else.

CURSING/YELLING/DEGRADING/IGNORING/ are all FORMS OF VERBAL AND EMOTIONAL ABUSE!

This has really scarred me as a 20 year old woman still trying to find who I am. I would laugh at other girls who would let their man talk to them like crap in public, and I told myself I would never be that girl...and then I became her. It took me months of research, doubting myself, crying, praying, and hurting to realize that the way this person spoke to me was WRONG. Without a doubt, it was wrong. You're not fucking stupid, you're not dumb, you're not a klutz. You're not, and sometimes when people are repeating hurtful things over and over to you, you start to believe it. Just because a person is MAD, and you are "the reason" they are mad, doesn't mean you DESERVE to be spoken to in a way that puts you down, disrespects you, or humiliates you. You are a human being, and if you don't talk to someone that way, why should THEY speak to you in that way? You are never to be blamed, and I remember constantly feeling that it was my fault I was spoken to this way. It is never your fault. A person's lack of self control and respect for you would never be on you. They will treat you that way because they are incapable of using other outlets to express their anger in a constructive way that will not hurt another person.

A person ignoring you is also emotional abuse. For any person to withhold communication, sex, information, anything that denies connecting to you for any reason other than to collect ourselves is abuse. Understand that one or two days of not speaking to someone is NORMAL. Sometimes we simply need time apart to cool off and really think out a situation before going into it again. But anything more than 3-4 days is simply childish, and their way of feeling powerful in order for you to chase after them, worry about them, or just wanting to "teach you a lesson". An adult, at least a mature adult would not need 3-4 days to prove a point to their partner. They should be capable of showing that they care by being able to properly communicate.

This is a topic that has scarred me emotionally, and it has been so difficult to really rebuild myself and talk about abuse because I always cry when I talk about it. It is extremely hard to deal with a person who is verbally abusive to you, and even harder to soothe your scars and heal. When you are verbally abused, your scars are not physical, but they're emotional, and takes much more care and nurturing to heal. You need to understand that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, and when a person is capable of speaking to you this way one time, understand that you are the reason they will be able to do it a second time. You must put a stop to abusive behavior and let the people you surround yourself UNDERSTAND that it is not something to be compromised with. There can never be a compromise on people that cannot respect you. Love is respect.

LOVE IS MANY THINGS, BUT LOVE DOES NOT HURT...LOVE IS NOT PAIN.

If you're ever looking for a really great example of what love is, I encourage you to read and ABSORB this bible verse:

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Nowhere in that verse states that love abuses or love hurts. I understand that a relationship is not easy, and it will never be a bed of roses. There will be hard and difficult times, and it can sometimes really put you in less than happy situations. There is a difference however between being hurt in a regular relationship, and hurt in a toxic relationship. It is okay to be upset or hurt over something your partner does, and express the way you feel to them in order to resolve those feelings. It is NOT okay to feel hurt constantly by the repetitive behavior that your partner refuses to change. If they do not care that you are hurt by something, you don't need that. Someone who truly loves you wants to see a happy you, never a hurt you so they would do whatever it takes to change the situation. If they are content with leaving you unhappy or hurt, then they don't care about you. Leave.

LOVE YOURSELF FIRST.

It is extremely hard to really dedicate your heart and soul into a relationship if you cannot love yourself first. How can you love someone else or have someone else truly love you if you cannot do the same? It can be hard, but going through certain things will allow you to see what you will tolerate from what you will not accept, and it will become easier to put yourself first. I highly encourage working on yourself first before stepping into a relationship. When you love yourself, you will never allow anyone to hurt, destroy or hinder your integrity, growth or value as a person. You know what you bring to the table, so you won't ever worry about eating alone.

FOLLOW YOUR GUT...

If you feel like you're just not happy and things aren't seeming to get better, then all the signs saying it isn't worth it are probably the best hints you will get. Trust me when I say I know it's so much easier said than done, but sometimes all the answers we are looking for are right in front of our eyes and we just refused to see it. I used to tell my partner that I wish things were this way, and I wish we were like that. I was responded with an answer along the lines of telling me that I wish for a fantasy, or I'm not patient enough and that it will come in time. Never allow someone to tell you that what you want isn't realistic. Often times, people that find the healthy and happy relationships to be unrealistic are people that are guilty of being the reason WHY you aren't in a healthy and happy relationship in the fist place. No relationship is perfect, but it IS possible to have a relationship that will have you feeling fulfilled, appreciated, loved, and adored EVERYDAY. I was once told that I only desire fairytales...but I realised that it IS possible, I was just hearing those words from a person that is INCAPABLE of giving it to me. If you find yourself really questioning your happiness, value, self-worth, confidence or security, more times than not, you already know what to do...

BEING HAPPY SHOULDN'T BE A CHORE...

This somewhat relates to my prior point, but if you feel like it is SO hard to simply be happy in your relationship, then maybe it wasn't meant for you. I would wonder why I couldn't be called beautiful, had little surprises, little treats, small acts of chivalry, just things that would make me smile a little extra hard once in a while. You are NEVER supposed to compare your situations to someone else, but if you realise that your partner has fallen short on making you happy, then its time to wake up. I would wish and pray constantly for him to love me more, or adore me more, or to make me feel missed, or like I meant something. I was treated just regular...and if you ever feel like you are treated just like a regular person, you are SETTLING. Never settle for someone that treats you like you are ordinary.

YOU ARE A QUEEN.

You are a Queen. So don't ever ever settle for someone that cannot realise that. And by a Queen, I don't mean that a man is supposed to give you that title. You must enter your relationship as a Queen, and it is a man's job to RECOGNISE your crown, not issue it to you. You DESERVE to have someone text you "Good morning beautiful" every freaking day. You deserve the random flowers, the love letters written to you, the once a month flowers, the sneak hugs from behind, those cute little hoodies he lets you borrow. You deserve to be have someone loyal, someone that makes you the apple of their eye EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. You deserve someone that appreciates and loves you for exactly who you are. You do not need to change who you are to satisfy their needs. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, and he KNOWS that. He is the type of man you would want for your daughter. A man that respects you each and every single day, in front of your back and behind your back. A man that loves you without a shadow of doubt, a man that PRAYS for you, and wants more for you than what he wants for himself. IT ISN'T A FAIRYTALE. There are men out there waiting for you. God needs us to be patient. He needs us to wait to find that person, because the person that God sends to you is not the person you went trying to find. You need to find and understand what love means through the pages of a Bible, and not through pictures and fake companionships we find online. We need to understand that the love He has for us is greater than any love we can look for in a man, and that we must wait patiently for it. Understand that if one man cannot bring you what you need, there are surely a hundred other men that are capable of it. And the most important lesson of all, the quote that gives me hope when all seems bleak...

WE ALL GET THE LOVE THAT WE DESERVE...

So don't worry your soul about being extra loving. Don't spend your time like I did for so long wishing you loved a person less or cared less simply because you were put in a position where being that way hurt you more than it helped you. Be the weed in the sidewalk that still grows despite their circumstances...it will pay off one day I promise. You will find someone that love you exactly how you are. You will never have to feel hurt for loving too much because there will be someone that will appreciate and reciprocate the love you have for them in all the right ways, and be capable of loving you in the exact same way if not better. Keep being true to yourself, keep being loving, and kind and keep being a great PERSON. We will eventually all get the love that we deserve, NOT the love that we ASK for, not the love we WANT, but the kind of love that you have to give someone else.

I hope this helps someone out there, and brings you some type of peace in whatever situation you're in. I have tattooed on me, "This too shall pass..." as a reminder to myself that I will be able to overcome and get through any situation I go through. It does get easier, and even though it is extremely difficult right now, but just keep praying and have faith that God is handling it, and watch all that happens...

Hey guys! Today's post is going to be all about highlighters, and you will be able to see my current highlighter collection as well. Unfortunately some of the products I have are limited edition, or discontinued, but there are still so many different options you can choose from in this post. They have recently BOOMED in popularity amongst consumers, and everyone is into the whole highlight/contouring thaaang. I personally am a highlighter freak, and I wear it every time I do my makeup. I know some only prefer it on more dramatic makeup, but that's just my preference to wear it all the time. I think a highlighter makes anyone look healthy and glowy, and even if your sick, or tired or just plain look like crap, a little bit of highlighter can make a big difference. Of course like with everything in life, a highlighter should be used in moderation...unless you're going for the disco ball blinding look that is. I seperated the baked highlighters, gel-like highlighters, pressed highlighters, and loose highlighters below. Be warned, this post is photo heavy!

A highlighter is basically a product that is used to bring attention or draw out a feature on a person's face. It is the opposite of contouring, which is a technique used to create shadows on a face to recede certain features. Highlighters, contrary to popular belief, can be MATTE, or does not have to have any shimmer whatsoever. My collection of highlighters however are primarily shimmery, and I use concealers for a more subtle matte highlight with it. In case you aren't familiar with where you should apply a highlighter, I found this image on Google that breaks it down for even the slowest of people like myself :)

So below are my coveted highlighters, and some OK ones which I will point out which ones are your basic powders, compared to the powders that have become the loves of my life.

I actually feature two MAC MSF's on below pictures, but the packaging is pretty much the same hence why I only photographed Lightscapade. They are both the older packaging from MAC, but they look slightly different now. MAC MSF's are one of the first highlighting powders I became familiar with and still remain a favorite to many. I still have my eye on one more (Global Glow I'm coming for you!)
No one ever believes me when I say that this blush is really amazing. It's quite comparable in my opinion to the MAC MSF in Soft & Gentle, but costs a heck of a lot less. Sorry for the crappy appearance, I've definitely had it for a long time.

As you can see, Lightscapade is not as shimmery as Soft & Gentle or Pinktastic. It looks better IMO on fair skinned people, and it's a great everyday highlight as it isn't too sparkly. It is very subtle and lightly highlights without being overbearing. On darker skin tones this may appear ashy.

Soft & Gentle and Pinktastic are similar in how it appears on the skin and in the pan. Soft and Gentle is slightly more creamier in texture, but share equal pigmentation as Pinktastic (okay ELF I see you!) Soft & Gentle is also a little more warm toned than Pinktastic as Pinktastic tends to be slightly less yellow and share a few pink veining.

*DISCONTINUED*

When I discovered this highlighter in the clearance box of Victoria's Secret, I didn't realize how amazing it would've been and if I can go back in time, I would've purchased 6. I believe these are no longer made, and it's such a shame because the texture is unbelievably creamy and illuminating (hence the name), and I can't believe I paid no more than $7.

Yes...I have the infamous Estee Lauder Heatwave, the cream of the crop, the pricey sister to MAC's Whisper of Gilt. I remember when I purchased this at the Cosmetics Store in an outlet, I almost peed myself when the clerk told me this is the last one. I definitely said a prayer to the makeup Gods that night. This gem is worth the hype, and every penny. I don't remember the original price, but I paid a discounted price of $31. Like I said, the makeup Gods had blessed me that day :) I know this goes upwards of $70 on eBay now, but it truly is beautiful. I save mine for special occasions!

If you were reading my previous blurb on the EL Heatwave, and was sorely disappointed when you realized how difficult it is to get your hands on, I am here to cheer you up again! This bad boy is actually an eyeshadow. The Kiko Wet/Dry Eyeshadow in 208 is an almost spot on dupe for Heatwave. If you live in Europe, you can find this at the KIKO stores, and I believe in NJ/NY, there are also a few KIKO stores. My wonderful friend purchased 2 in Germany and brought it back for me after I realized they no longer sell this shade (208) online. She bought it for 5 euros! Yes, that was 5 euros which is almost the equivalent of 7 DOLLARS! I did a happy dance that day when she gave it to me. Not only is the color VERY similar, but the gel like texture is very close as well, so I use it on my cheeks instead. It does look stunning on the eyes too however, but I'd do anything to preserve my Heatwave!

For the 2014-2015 holidays, this Bobbi Brown shimmer brick was on everyone's Christmas list! I purchased mine off of the Bobbi Brown website the day after it was released. It wasn't as difficult to acquire as other limited edtiion highlighters, but it still sold out completely after a couple weeks on the market. Absolutely love the texture and the pigmentation, and it's more bronze than the other highlighters I previously mentioned so it will work beautifully on darker skin tones as well.

My favorite type of highlighters! This gorgeous gel like texture! These are more intense and will give you a shimmer-like sheen on the skin, and are usually more smooth to blend on the skin due to the texture. These are more intense than the powder and baked highlighters making them perfect for nights out...unless you're like me and wear these on a daily basis haha!

Here's a little side by side action for you all. Man, I can't tell you how much my arm was killing me trying to get these shots! #onemanarmy

As you can see, the finishes between the baked highlighters and the gel textured one are different with the gel ones leaving more of a smooth sheen. Bronze Glow is the most warm toned with Lightscapade being the most cool toned. Victoria's Secret Next to Nude has a rose undertone but still looks flattering.
Now this one was more of a let down than I had remembered it being. I don't usually reach for this highlighter, and I've had it for a couple years now (yes I know, I should toss it). When I just bought it, I remember being very smooth and pigmented, typical of ELF blushes. When I swatched it for the pictures, it was very chalky and didn't have the iridescent shimmer I remember it having. Many say this is a dupe for NARS Albatross, but I do not own Albatross so I cannot speak on it. What I can say though is that I'm pretty sure the NARS blush is a much better quality than this particular ELF blush!

The Mary-Lou Manizer is one of my favorite products from the Balm Cosmetics. The Balm has been one of the first mid-end cosmetics I have ever purchased, and they have never disappointed me after all these years. I've always heard so many things about their highlighters Mary-Lou Manizer and Betty-Lou Manizer. After researching and comparing the two, I decided to go with the Mary-Lou Manizer for it's champagne shimmer. I absolutely love the texture, pigmentation and packaging on the these highlighters, so if you prefer a warm rose toned highlight, I'm sure you'll love the Betty-Lou Manizer as well! I have two Mary-Lou Manizers, one in my kit and one for personal use. They look amazing on everyone and gives this gorgeous glow that catches the light. It's smooth, and finely milled so the shimmer isn't too chunky, but it's not subtle either! If you have dark to very dark complexions, this may appear a little too cool on the skin.

You can purchase Mary here or on Hautelook who frequently has them on sale!

*LIMITED EDITION*

Another stunning highlight, yet it is limited edition, sorry guys! :( This blush is gorgeous, and can be used as eyeshadows or a blush. It has 4 different quadrants (see pictures below) with different shimmer shades, and combined creates a gorgeous soft rose highlight. It's pretty cool how customizable this one can be though! If you want more gold in your highlight, or more rose, you can be a little more heavy handed in that quadrant. As eyeshadows, it is very finely milled and extremely smooth. This is a winner all around, and a great multitasker!

These are Inglot's Sparkling Dusts in the shades 02 and 03, my two newest purchases! I fell in love with these at first swipe. They are so glittery and beautiful and gorgeous and aahh..just so pretty. I really love how these are multifunctional. They look stunning on the eyes, or you can use it to add some interest to your décolleté. An Inglot representative had also used it as a highlight on her cheek which surprised me! These are the only ones I've swatched with actual fine glitter on them, so of course my main concern was looking like I just got beat up by the sparkle fairy. Once blended out with a fluffy brush, the glitter/sparkle kinda melts into the skin. I can't even explain it right, but it's more of an intense highlight that isn't OVERLY shimmery, but noticeable. I like it, and they're so versatile. These are loose powders, so you need a very light hand with them, but once you get started on these Inglot powders, you will want to buy them all!

Inglot 02 is more of a champagne gold, very universal on light to medium skin tones, and for a more bronzy glow, Inglot 03 is warmer and more gold. 03 will look amazing on medium to deep skin tones. Both very gorgeous and the most intense highlighters I own!

I'm sure we've all been down that road where we find ourself in a relationship with someone so amazing, so perfect, so beautifully packaged waiting just for you. Regardless if you've been in one relationship or many, some couples never really get to discuss or fully analyze their feelings for one another in the relationship. Doing some thinking in hindsight, I've looked back at relationships (official and unofficial), and I find myself pondering on who "loved" or who "adored" the other more in the relationship. See, if I was keeping score realistically speaking, I think I would have a couple tallies by my name, and only one tally by the other person in the relationship in terms of who loved or adored the other more. And when I keep on pondering, I try to see if I can figure it out in other people's relationships from the outside.

See, truth of the matter is, there is ALWAYS one person who will love/adore the other person more in a romantic relationship. I say love and/or adore because sometimes it's an infatuation in the situation rather than true love, or it's still a stage of adoration that never got to to become love. If I was to discuss this situation with someone else, I believe that some would agree that's the case, and some would say it actually becomes equal. I on one hand may never know if it becomes equal because I've never been in one where it has been *sad face*. Aside from that one stray tally by that one guy who just seemed to be so head over heels for me (and I broke his heart sadly), I've been the one to love and adore more.

I've always been a sucker for love, especially being a Libra I crave companionship. I never saw the fun side to being single and having "fun" so to speak. I love meeting someone I can relate, love, care, and adore. I've been in no more than 5 relationships, only two official, and even in the two legit relationships, I loved the other person more. With one, it was never really spoken about, but with the second, it was not unspoken or "the elephant in the room". He knew that I loved and cared for him more, and he often time warned me against making him priority. Of course at times it would seem that I put him first, and my world gravitated around his, but obviously I didn't intentionally do it.

Since clearly I know too much about sharing my heart like it's the last slice, I wanted to express the way that I feel about those situations that often go unspoken in a relationship. If you are the one who loves more, or even if you feel like you are but not sure, I want you to know that it is OKAY. The reason why it is okay, and trust me when I say I've thought about it for a long time to justify the way I feel, is that we have a raw, beautiful, genuine love that only deserving people should ever get to feel. We hold a gift that so many people want in a relationship. The problem of course is when our gift is given to someone undeserving, someone who doesn't deserve to feel the love we have to offer. The even bigger problem is when we can't sort out those bad seeds ourselves, and our love is often abused. Giving someone such unconditional and beautiful love is something that is craved by many, but often times once they receive love like that, does not know what to do with it. Some can't handle a love like that either. And others just want to use it against us.

You will feel the tension of being that person, the person with the gift to love so freely when you argue, when you fight, when tensions are high, when it comes to missing the other person, when it comes to how far you're willing to go. I can't tell you how many times I wished and prayed for someone to love me the way I am able to love them. Unfortunately I've always stumbled upon people that protect their hearts first, and then choose the relationship, so they are always the one who get to reap the benefits of being with someone with that gift of love. It would be so nice sometimes to be missed more, rather than miss someone more, or loved more. Sometimes I think how nice it would be to have someone run back to me more than I run back to them. Sometimes I just want to feel more love and affection than what I give off in love and affection.

But if you're that person who is the one is WITH someone who loves like Cupid, or someone more comfortable with opening up and showing adoration, I encourage you to never let them go. Always strive to try and be as good or better than them at loving and showing how much you care. It's never a competition, but you should never be content with knowing that they love you more. If you are, then you need to find someone that will give you the love that YOU deserve. I do feel that one day we will receive the love that we deserve, and it may not be in our time, but in His time. Don't allow that person to feel that you're love will eventually grow for them when you know deep down it never will. That's giving them false hope. We should never settle for someone that makes us feel as if they can leave tomorrow, but implies they know you would never be able to. One day someone will love them just as well or even better than they are able to love. If you are scared to love, or hesitant to open up, if you feel like you can't offer the love that a person needs, step aside and let someone else do the job for you. If you are putting in 50, don't be selfish and take from someone continuously giving you 100. Always remember, if you aren't doing you're job right, there is always someone else that will. Act right, or get left!

It sucks sometimes when things don't work out in a relationship, but someone older once told me that eventually in the relationship you grow to love each other equally. I hope thats true because I know love is a lot of things, but it should never be mediocre. Be with someone who makes you love to love. Someone who makes you WANT to love. And even if you're with someone who you know isn't on that level with you, if you feel they are trying their hardest to love you like you love them, then stay with them. Help them grow to love like how you know how to love. Loving hard should never feel like a curse. If it ever makes you feel that way, then you're showing that to the wrong person. To feel everything so deeply is a blessing and a curse, and love is no exception.

Best of luck,

Hey guys! I know it's been a while since I posted. I went away to Trinidad for two weeks, as well as being sick when I came back home, and now I am currently sick again! School starts tomorrow again and I am not looking forward to it! Thank God I'm almost done! But anyway, back to the task at hand. I wanted to share with you guys what I used on my face that helped to clear my acne. I wish I had read an article like this when I searched for answers, but most led to articles and posts using these super expensive products, or a skin care routine that had 435 different steps. Well, I am about to share what helped clear up my skin in a matter of give or take, 2-3 months. Even better? It's one product that is extremely affordable, and it is a natural product :)

Well for you to understand my acne journey, I have to explain my story. I had acne periods twice already in my life. I can't remember verbatim, but I believe I had acne from the ages of 13-16. My face was pretty clear from the ages of 16-18. When I started college, my acne came back again which really sucked because who wants to have acne when now beginning a new chapter of their life? Here is a picture of me from August 2013.

Since then, I've tried everything from peels to masks, to scrubs, to serums. Something that came close to helping my acne however was the Clinique 3 Step System that includes a face wash, a toner, and moisturizer. It really worked to clear my skin, it was just really expensive to continue repurchasing. My favorite product of the Clinique 3 Step system was the moisturizer (Dramatically Different), and I still continue to repurchase the moisturizer and use on a daily basis. It moisturizes without irritating the skin and without making my skin feel greasy.

My skin has only blackheads here and there, as well as whiteheads during my time of the month. My marks have faded although I still have a long way to go. The texture is much smoother, as well as my pores more refined. My skin tone is more even and overall lighter.

So let me not procrastinate any longer in sharing this product with you. The product that contributed the most towards the clearing of my skin is African Black Soap, or more particularly, Dudu Osun African Black Soap.

This product was recommended to me by a coworker who used it on her baby for her skin rashes. I purchase mine from my local beauty supply for $3.00, and Dudu Osun is the brand I've been using although there are many other brands that carry African Black Soap.

A little background on African Black Soap? It is made of the ash of locally harvest plants and barks such as cocoa pods, shea tree bark, and palm tree leaves. They are dried, then roasted and then combined with water and various oils to create the soap. It is often created by African women, typically from Ghana, and there are multiple variations of black soap from various secret recipes. Black soap has long been used for eczema, cuts, sores, rashes, acne, fine lines, wrinkles, hyper pigmentation, and troubled skin.

When you first use black soap, I recommend starting off by washing your face once a day with it, as it may be too harsh for some to wash twice a day. I personally am able to use it twice a day as I've been doing it for quite a while now, but there are some ingredients that may be too strong for sensitive skin. Of course you guys know I wear makeup frequently, but because of black soap I don't need to remove my makeup prior to washing my face because black soap is good enough on it's own to remove the makeup.

When you wash your face with it, the suds will appear black or brown in color. This is completely normal, but I would be careful using it around cloths or things you mind staining. Black soap does stain (but not your skin).

When I wash with black soap, my face feels so clean, almost like it could squeak. There is no residue from the soap, and all traces of makeup and dirt is gone. The soap does all the work for me. I would definitely be careful using it around your eyes though. I've burned my eyes with it, and boy can I tell you, that is no Johnson & Johnson! It really burns!

The Dudu Osun brand has lime juice in it which may irritate sensitive skin but because of the lime juice and shea butter, the soap has managed to fade the existing marks and even out my skin tone as well.

I've heard that you can melt the soap, or buy the liquid version of it to use as a clarifying shampoo or body wash. It is an extremely versatile product that naturally cleans and purifies.

I would recommend this more for people with oily to combination skin, but if you have dry skin, this will probably dry out your skin more since it is a powerful cleanser. When I use this product, I always follow up with my facial oil or my Clinique moisturizer, or my face will end up feeling tight.

As you can see, the ingredients in Dudu Osun are natural ingredients, which makes me feel so much better to share this product with you guys! It really is a lifesaver and it is so cheap! I stopped buying mine from my Beauty Supply store, and I currently get mine from Amazon in the 6 pack. One bar lasts me around 3-4 months, so I really wouldn't need to buy any more soaps for another year! This soap is truly one of the greatest most affordable products I've used in a while, and I highly recommend it to anyone suffering from any type of skin problems. Even if it doesn't work for you like it did for me, at $3 a bar, it really doesn't hurt to try right?

So after much procrastination and laziness, I finally decided to show everyone how I fill in my brows. I was always thinking about doing a video on it, but for the meantime, this shall suffice. So here are the steps for your viewing pleasure, and I hope you are able to take away some of the techniques that I used as they are what works for me! I personally love filling in my eyebrows. To me, eyebrows are the frames of your entire face. You can't have a beat face and lacking eyebrows...it just doesn't work ;) And always remember, your eyebrows don't have to be completely perfect! Brows are meant to be sisters, not twins! Hope you like!

***This is my personal way to do MY eyebrows. You are of course free to do them however you like, this is just my way.****

The products I use (L-R) include the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pomade in Dark Brown, Jordana Brow Powder in Brunette, EX-1 Delete Concealer in D200.
The tools I use (top-bottom) include the Urban Decay Shadow Brush (my HG sculpting brush!!), the MAC 266 brush (another HG, seriously this brush gives me life!), an Ecotools Flat Shader brush, and a Coastal Scents blending brush (a dupe for MAC 217).

My bare eyebrow.
So this is pretty much my bare eyebrow with no products. On my eyes, I just have on eyeliner and mascara, you know...the usual. The issue I have with my eyebrows is not the fullness or sparseness, but the shape and length.

So the first thing I do is groom and tame by brows. When I'm in a rush, sometimes I tend to forget this step, but you don't realize how much it helps with making filling in easier as the hairs are already somewhat in place. I can't tell you how many times I struggled trying to move my hairs in place with my angled eyeliner brush. #fail

Next, I go ahead and outline the underneath of my brow to define the shape with the Anastasia Brow Pomade and the MAC 266 brush. I do not change the shape, I simply elongate it and define it using the shape I already have.

I then go ahead and take a little bit more of the pomade on the brush, and I fill in the outer 2/3 of my brows without touching the front. I use short hair-like strokes for the most natural look.

This step is extremely important on how I try to keep my brows defined, yet natural looking. Before, I would fill in the front of my brows like a little faded box. Thank Goodness I have gave up that habit. I try to keep my natural hairs peeking through to give a subtle fade, with slight shape by taking the side of my brush with leftover product, and I pull up from the line I made in the first step. This helps blend the product upwards from when I made the original first line underlining my brow. I continue to blend in an upwards motion until I get the desired look.

This is where I would go ahead and analyze the shape of my brows. My eyebrow lady turned my little arch into a lame little curve >:( so I usually go ahead and take a little bit more product and add it to the arch or curvature of my brow, making sure to slowly build the arch and connect it to tail of my brow. A subtle arch is what I prefer, and I find that it looks the most natural as well.

I love this step! It's where I feel my brows come together. I grab the Urban Decay synthetic brush, and coat the two sides with the EX-1 Concealer. I use two shades lighter than my skin tone to highlight my brows as well as sculpt it. It's typically the same color I would use as my underye concealer. I prefer to use a cream concealer in a pot than a liquid or squeeze tube because they tend to be thicker when in a pot, and thicker concealers sculpt my brows better and easier than a liquid. I just clean up any errors I made, and give my brows a clean edge. Sorry about the picture quality of this one, the lighting was off!

This is what my brows look like after I add the concealer. I do a thin amount in the front, a little more under the arch, and I take it to the upper tail of the brow stopping at the arch. I also make sure to sharpen the tail of my brow with the concealer as well.

This step I recently modified and I have been loving the results I received. Before, I would blend out the concealer with my ring finger, but it often made a mess on my hands, and it wouldn't be precise because it can blur the edges between the concealer and the brow, thus ruining my hard work. I picked up a blending brush (similar to MAC 217), and tried it instead. I absolutely loved the result. The brush blends out the concealer so much better and faster, and looks seamless yet brightened. I don't want my concealer to be noticeable, I just want my eyebrows to appear lifted and bright.

I do this step at times when my eyebrows are in between salon visits, and they start to look cray cray. I take a synthetic foundation brush, and a little teensy dot of my foundation, and I just go ahead and clean up the tops of my eyebrows. Many people use the lighter concealer, but the best way to keep it natural is to stick to your regular foundation/concealer color for the top.

Lastly, I grab a flat shader brush, and the Jordana brow powder, and gently press the shadow onto my brows where I filled them in. With what is left on the brush, I then ever so lightly dust it on the front of my brows. If I powder the front of my brows regularly, it will get too dark because the Jordana brow powder is actually meant to fill in your brows. I've seen many brow routines, but I rarely see anyone else do this. To me, this step honestly seals in the brow pomade, and makes my brows bulletproof! It also slightly darkens it, and sets in my eyebrows.

And this is the final brow! This is what I typically do on a day to day basis, and it is what works for me!

Good evening everyone! I just thought that I would share my face of the day with you all and tell you what I used. Today I had overslept, was running 15 minutes late, ran into massive traffic on the Belt Parkway (all because of a lane being closed for construction), ran in the freezing cold, was 20 minutes late to class, and was falling asleep while the professor talked. I'll soon be heading off to work. This EX-1 Foundation is my main bish. I don't have to touch up ;) If you have any questions, you know how to find me! :)

Hey there beautiful! So for the past couple of weeks, I've accumulated some products from Inglot, CVS, and Sephora. I do have more products from Inglot (a freedom palette I created), but I'm still trying to figure out how to take out the eyeshadows from the palette without dinging it :( I also forgot to include two lipsticks from their MAC's Holiday Collection. Whomp whomp. I'll swatch them another day if I have the time, these swatches took me forever to photograph & edit. This is just a haul post so I'm not getting too much into the product information and details, but I will list the names and what I think of the product along with photos. If you would like to see a detailed review on any of these products, just let me know! :)
I absolutely adore this set my boyfriend got for me from Sephora. I've always wanted to try the Bite lip pencils, and this is a perfect way to try some amazing colors in their High Pigment formula. They come in the cutest "altoid" tins, and makes an awesome stocking stuffer. I love anything mini ^_^ Ugh, so festive!

How incredible are these lippies? Even though they're mini, the color payoff is incredible. So obsessed with Winterberry & Rhubarb, they're gorgeous! Sable is a wearable nude, but I would pair it with a liner, it looks a little patchy on me. Pomegranate is an intense blue toned red, so showstopping! It reminds me of NARS Dragon girl, but with a satin finish. These lipstick crayons are not drying at all, and very creamy and moisturizing with a satin to amplified finish. I would definitely repurchase Rhubarb & Winterberry in the full size!

I couldn't help myself with these nude lipsticks that I purchased at CVS. They were having a buy one, get one 50% off sale on Rimmel, Milani, & Physician's formula and caved! I've always heard great things about Milani's Color Statement Lipstick, and Nude Creme seemed up my alley since I've been on a nude lippie streak recently. The Rimmel lipsticks seemed really pretty, and I already loved the Moisture Renew formula.

Notting Hill Nude & Milani Nude Creme are now officially two of my favorite nudes. I personally prefer Notting Hill Nude because the formula and pigmentation is incredible, but Nude Creme is the perfect combo of nude and pink. A little Whirl lipliner, and any of these lipsticks, and I have the most stunning yet flattering nude lip! Notting Hill Nude would also make a great nude for WOC. Let's Get Naked looks a little like MAC's Angel.

So this was my first time in an Inglot store, and I went to the one in Times Square. I swear I was like a kid in a candy store. I had always wanted to try Inglot products, and I was a little confused by their website >_< I spent almost an hour in there, and came out with a smile on my face. Like I said previously, I did get a freedom palette, but I'm trying to remove the shadows from the palette & it's being stubborn. I will swatch them another time. I ended up picking up a lipgloss, 2 amazing pigments, and the freedom palette. I think Inglot is now my new favorite and their products may even be better than *gasp* MAC :-O Take a look and tell me yourself!

This lipgloss was SO cool. When the girl swatched it in the store for me, I caved even after making a promise to myself that I am not buying any more lipsticks or lip products! It looks like a prism in the bottle, and when you swatch it or apply it, it transforms into a creamy color in a non-sticky formula. They have other really cool shades, but this one seemed great to top with peachy nudes.

Now these pigments have blown me away. These are some of the most unique pigments I have come across and OH-SO-WORTH the trip/visit to an Inglot. One pigment is a gorgeous iridescent lilac with a gold reflect, and the other is a burgundy/purple with a copper reflect. So stunning foiled or dry!

I could not wait to get my hands on this. I always eye holiday collections and told myself eventually I need to invest in a blush palette. A couple years I remember hating myself for not picking up the NARS Blush palette, but I did pick up this Tarte blush palette and I am so impressed. The packaging is very cute and creative, taking the form of a clutch. The gold and purple makes it appear very regal and expensive. It also comes with two gold hair clips on the front. The packaging on this is incredible, and would make a great gift for any blush lover.

The blushes are so creamy, pigmented and finely milled. They felt like butter! I love the colors, and I'm glad that Tarte gave us a wide range of colors, not like a bunch of corals, or a bunch of pinks. I think I'll put this in my makeup kit to eliminate space however, as it has 5 gorgeous colors in a compact packaging. The blushes will work for most skin tones! The only one that I wouldn't use would be Breathless as it appears ashy against my skin tone. I would use that on fair skinned clients for a warm glow! My favorite color is Bashful, and it reminds me of NARS Orgasm, just more peachy. Whimsy is so pigmented, and Irreplaceable makes a gorgeous fall blush.

Well thanks to Kylie Jenner, everyone and their mom is now back into the 90's trend with gorgeous deep mauve and deep brown lippies. I actually didn't even realize how much I loved the color even after falling madly in love with Kat Von D's Lolita way before it became a trend. After reading somewhere that she uses Whirl lipliner by MAC (update: now I'm hearing it's Soar) all over her lips, I decided to take it upon myself to buy it, and ever since then, I've been HOOKED. I ran to MAC and picked it up, and immediately fell in love. It looks so stunning on tan/caramel complexions, but still manages to look incredible on lighter skin tones. After constant use of this pencil being my go to on its own, or with a nude or pink lipstick, I kinda panicked seeing it shrink in size every week.

I tend to have anxiety when something is running low, so I knew I would have to buy another Whirl eventually. I was a little reluctant to spend another $16.00 on a LIP PENCIL (for pete's sake it's a pencil!), so I decided to do my research and stumbled upon a dupe...NYX Mauve lipliner! At the first chance I saw a NYX retailer, I had to pick it up at $3.50 a pop (I bought mine at Ricky's NYC). So how well does it really compare? Let's go ahead and find out!

Thoughts: I absolutely love the two colors regardless of the price or not. However, as you can see from the swatches, Mauve is slightly more pale in tone and leans more on the purple side. Whirl is more of a rose tone, and a just a little darker than Mauve. On the lips, they look very similar, but still give that overall deep mauve color. Whirl has a slightly more dry chalky texture, thus making it a little more difficult to apply. Moisturized lips are a must when using Whirl. Because of the drier texture, it feels and looks more matte. Mauve has a more waxy consistency, thus giving more slip while applying. It applies smoother than Whirl, and is not as dry in texture. Mauve feels more comfortable to wear than Whirl.

Overall: For the incredible price point, and the easier to apply texture, I would definitely stick to NYX Mauve lipliner. If you were thinking of investing in Whirl but cringed at the price, the NYX liner is a great alternative! Whirl is still incredible, but some things like a lip pencil is not really worth the splurge!

As my first beauty related post, I decided to take it upon myself to do for you what I felt was really lacking from other blogs. I always would remember seeing women using and raving about these amazing foundations that were a similar skin color to me, yet they would never list other foundation shades to reference the color. Because women of color foundations are still just a small part of the beauty industry, it can be so difficult to find our shades for really incredible products. Down below, you will find a list of all the foundations I own, and their shade so you can always reference back to this post if you want to know what colors would most likely work on skin that is similar to mine. Hope you find it helpful!
So this hopefully marks the first post of many on Lips, Lids & Lashes. Let me just start off by saying my name is Cassandra, and I am a 20 year old New Yorker. I am attending college, and I am a Business Administration major with a concentration in Marketing. I have a passion for anything that sparkles, gleams, shines, or belongs on your face! Not only am I a student, but I am also a freelance makeup artist as well. I had originally started a blog about makeup when I had just gotten into makeup about 3 years ago, but was never really able to follow through with it. My old blog is just a reminder to me now of the progress that I've made since then.

What I plan to achieve through posting on my blog is to satisfy the makeup junkie's swatch/review addictions, while still appeasing to someone that has just picked up their first red lipstick. Hopefully you'll be able to piece together a little of the reason why I love makeup in every post, as well as let you walk away with a tidbit more of knowledge from the oh-so-vast beauty industry. Now I will give a heads up that I won't be able to post every single day or sometimes a week may past due to the fact that I do work and go to school, and sometimes life catches up to me. But I can promise that I will try to dedicate as much time to this as I would anything else.

Please, if you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to post away. Thankfully my phone helps keep me connected all the time (#teamiphone!) so I'm not too far away.

Thanks for taking the time out to read what I have to say!
